
LESLIE HAYWARD CLARKE
CLARKE, LESLIE HAYWARD At the Veterans Health Unit in Fredericton, NB on Thursday January 17, 2008, Leslie H. Clarke passed away peacefully at the age of 88. Born in Ripples, NB, and formerly of Castleton, NY, he was a son of the late Russell and Stella (Tapley) Clarke. Leslie served in the Canadian Army with the 3rd Anti Tank Regiment landing on Juno Beach, Normandy on D-Day. He worked for International Harvester in upstate NY for 34 years. After retiring he returned to his homeland of New Brunswick where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and locating old friends. He found joy in telling jokes and making people laugh with his quick wit. Les and Muriel enjoyed travelling to many foreign countries and camping in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Muriel (Elliott) Clarke; his sons, Wayne, Kim (Janis) and Steven (Kris); seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Langin; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a daughter, Karen Gorski; and sister, Muriel Graham. A funeral service will be held at the Island View Baptist Church, old Trans Canada Highway on Monday, January 21, 2008 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment in the Ripples Community Cemetery will take place at a later date.
