DR. FRED MURDOCK
MURDOCK, DR. FRED It is with profound sadness that the family of Dr. Fred Murdock announce his passing in Fredericton, on Friday morning October 24, 2008, surrounded by his wife and family. Born February 2, 1933, Dr. Murdoch was a native of Loggieville NB, on the Miramichi, and the son of Edward J Murdoch and Mary Brideau. He was an ardent fly fisherman and enjoyed hunting, boating, and labrador retrievers. Fred also enjoyed summers at his Grand Lake cottage with his family and friends. Fred attended elementary school in Loggieville and the former Saint Thomas High School in Miramichi. Fred graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS and entered the Dalhousie University Faculty of Dentistry, where he was awarded hi Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1961. Following marriage to Margaret Mary MacDonald, a graduate of the St. F.X. school of nursing, the couple settled in Fredericton, Dr. Murdoch assuming the general dental practice of Dr. Blake O'Brien. A life long learner, Fred availed himself of continuing education in all aspects of general dentistry to better serve his patients. As a youth, Fred was an ardent amateur hockey player, reportedly with a "deadly shot". In Fredericton, Fred was a member of the Fredericton Golf and Curling Club. Fred is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margaret; and their four children, Dr. Carol Anne Murdoch-Kinch (John), oral medicine specialist at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Mary Ellen Murdoch Jackson (Glen) a registered pharmacist in Fredericton, Dr. F. Edward Murdoch (Leslie), an orthodontist in Nanaimo, BC, and Dr, John Murdoch (Dr. Kim Butt), staff anesthesiologist at Dr.Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ben, Alex and Maureen Kinch, Ann Arbor, MI; Anna, Molly and Mark Jackson, Fredericton, NB; Jacob and Erin Murdoch, Nanaimo, BC; and Jillian, Olivia and Sophie Murdoch, Fredericton, NB.; and his sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Hachey, Moncton NB, and Mrs. Edna Donahoe, Toronto, ON. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Plummer and Dr. Schauss, and their team on 4SW for their extraordinary care and kindness. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Saturday, October 25th, 2008 from 7 to 9 pm and Sunday, October 26th, from 2 to 4 pm. A Mass of Christine Burial will be held on October 27, 2008, 12:00 noon, at St. Dunstan's Roman Catholic Church. Rev. Gerald White as Celebrant and Rev. J.J. Dolan as Concelebrant. Interment will be in the Hermitage Cemetery. Remembrances may be made in Dr. Murdoch's name to St. Francis Xavier University. www.mcadamsfh.com
