83, North Sydney It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of Ernest Strickland, age 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in West Point, Nfld., he was the son of the late Percival and Beatrice (Billard) Strickland. In earlier years, while living in Newfoundland, Ernest worked as a fisherman and after moving to North Sydney, he was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic and later a steward on the Marine Atlantic Vessels. He is survived by his wife, Corella (Neil) Strickland; his children, Earl (Sheila), Halifax, Olive (Donald) Warren, North Sydney, Georgina (Harold) Bowles, Catalina, Nfld., Linda Mansfield, Wayne (Kimberly), both of North Sydney, Sherry LeBlanc (Steve Timmons), Millville, his 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; his two sisters, Joyce Anderson, North Sydney, and Sadie Eady, Renfrew, Ont.; and also by his special niece, Gladys Leamon. He was predeceased by his son, Brian, granddaughter, Donna Warren, sons-in-law, Donald LeBlanc and Daniel Mansfield, sisters, Olive Strickland, Margaret Anderson, Eva Strickland and a brother, Chesley Strickland. Visitation for Ernest will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday in the W. J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel, with Eric Lockhart and Murray Egger officiating. Burial to follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Family flowers only by request.
