65, North Sydney It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Mary Catherine Slade, age 65, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in North Sydney, Mary was the daughter of the late Alex and Margaret (Poole) Garnier. She was employed for many years at Zellers in the North Sydney Mall, retiring in 1997. She was a longtime member of the ladies auxiliary of the Northside General Hospital. Mary was a very active member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, an elder and a member of the UCW. She is survived by her husband, John and her two daughters, Judy Slade and Nancy Collins, both of North Sydney; her three grandchildren, Jennifer, Craig and Ryan; and her four brothers, Alex, Ontario, Ernie and Vince, both of North Sydney, and Paul, Sydney Mines; brothers and sisters-in-law Ern Slade, North Sydney, Don Slade, Sydney, Sylvia Fudge, Shirley MacDonald, both of Ball’s Creek, Gertie Slade, North Sydney; and her best friend, Veronica Gove. She was predeceased by two brothers, Alex and Ernie, a sister, Mary and sister-in-law, Mae MacKinnon. Visitation for Mary will be held Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A private funeral service will be held at a later date with Rev. David Luker officiating.
