
MATTHEW MERCER
MERCER, MATTHEW - The death of Mr. Matthew Mercer of 55 Magazine Street, Saint John, husband of the late Marjorie (Lee) Mercer, occurred on Saturday, June 8, 2002, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Matthew and Clara (Peddle) Mercer. Mr. Mercer was a veteran of World War II, serving overseas, with the Canadian Army, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was employed with the Canadian Armed Forces, for over 35 years, before his retirement in 1971. Matthew was a great man, always doing special things for others and was very devoted to his wife and family and will be sadly missed. He is survived by one daughter, Lynn MacDonald of Ontario, daughter-in-law, Shirley Mercer of Halifax, NS, brother-in-law, Cedric Lee (Grace) of Saint John, sister-in-law, Phyllis Seeley of Moncton, four grand-daughters, Catherine Poirier, Diana Mercer, Dana and Kelly MacDonald, one grandson, James MacDonald and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, David Mercer. By request, there will be no visiting at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery on Saturday, June 15, 2002 at 11:00 AM, followed by a time of remembrance at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John.
