JOHN COSMAN

COSMAN, JOHN - John Cosman of Grand Bay-Westfield passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on September 12, 2002 in his 97th year. He was born in Kingston, NB on November 25, 1905 to the late J. Wesley Cosman and Mary M. (Sterritt) Cosman. He was the husband of the late Lena M. (Duplisea) Cosman. He was the last surviving member of his family of nine. John was a people person, loved to visit and be visited. He loved to entertain with his stories, particularly those of the past. He was a family man and proud of his family. In his younger days he enjoyed swimming, skating, fishing, and hunting and a game of badminton. He loved the land and spent many happy times in his vegetable and flower gardens. With his wife, Lena he took many camping trips, often toting along grandchildren. He loved music and played the harmonica and his organ by ear. He was a man of wit with a keen mind which he retained until his last days. Early in life he made his living by working on farms, a golf course and lumber camps. However, he retired from his last job as a custodian and stationery engineer in city schools. John was a member of the River Valley Seniors. His faith was important to him and he was a member of the River Valley Wesleyan Church. He is survived by daughters Betty Hughes (Jack) of Quispamsis and Lorna Stallings (Glenn) of Bossier City, La., U.S.A., and son, Glendon (Diann) of Grand Bay-Westfield, 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Brentha Cosman of Hampton, Bernice Hersey of West Saint John, one brother-in-law, Lorne Duplisea (Margaret) of Fredericton, several nieces and nephews and many friends from whom he gained love and respect. Besides his wife, Lena, he was predeceased by an infant brother, Cecil, brothers Frank, Lawrence, Robert (Mae), and sisters Olive Taylor (Charles), Ruth McDavid (Winford) Mary Keith (Otty) and Florence Decker (Woodrow). Resting at Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, West Saint John, NB (506-634-1701) from where the visitation will be held on Friday from 7 - 9 and Saturday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2002 at 4 ;00 pm from River Valley Wesleyan Church, Grand Bay-Westfield. A reception will immediately follow in the church hall. Interment will take place at a later date in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit or donors' choice.
