BOWLEN, CHARLES HERBERT - The death of Charles Herbert Bowlen, age 78, of Fredericton, husband of the late Evelyn Judith (Donovan) Bowlen, occurred on Friday May 30, 2003 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Born in Devon. He was the son of the late Harry Walter Bowlen and Ellen Agnes (Dinsmore) Bowlen. Charles was retired owner of Bowlen's Grocery and Post office master of Fredericton Post office Sub. Number 1. He was a life long member of St. Anthony's Church Senior Choir and lifetime bowler of the Fredericton Alpine Jr. Men's bowling league. He is survived by four sons Charles E. Bowlen Jr. (Gaynell) of Fredericton, Terry Bowlen (Rita) of Taymouth, Michael Bowlen (Marg) of Dartmouth NS and Tim Bowlen of Fredericton; five daughters Judy Leavitt (Ken) of Keswick, Bonnie O'Donnell (Frank), Mary E. Bowlen, Janice Bowlen and Theresa Guitard (Marc) all of Fredericton; two sisters Annie McDonald and Ellen Leonard both of Fredericton; sister in-law Mary (Simcock) Bowlen of Fredericton, long time special friend Marlene Dorcas, seventeen grandchildren, one chosen grandson, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother Joseph Bowlen; two sisters Lenora Nicholls and Eileen LaPointe. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Dr. Fredericton on Sunday from 7-9 pm and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11am from St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Monte Peters officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
