McCOOEY, JEROME E. - It is with sorrow that the family of Jerome Eugene McCooey announce his death, which took place at Hotel Dieu Hospital, Perth-Andover, September 30, 2004. His death occurred after a long period of failing health, due to diabetes. He was 67. Born at Grand Falls, N.B., October 21, 1936, he was a son of the late Edward A. McCooey and the former Bertha Hamelin. He grew up in Grand Falls where he attended school, being a member of the local Air Cadet Squadron. Following this he joined the Canadian Army. After his discharge he resided in Fort Erie, ON and Cumberland, BC, where he owned and operated Y & J Discount Store as well as a number of apartments. Since returning to Grand Falls, he had been employed at McCain Foods until his illness caused him to retire early. Married to the former Yvette Martin, Jerome is survived by two daughters: Cindy (Rod) Little, Stevensville, ON; Denise (Daniel) Leclerc, Grand Falls, NB; three sons: Jerome Jr. (Butch), Waterdown, ON; Sean, Fort Erie, ON and Martin (Tina), Grand Falls; four sisters: Monda (Jack) Fosbrink, San Antonio, TX; Noreen MacLennan, Orillia, ON; Rita Bell, Limestone, ME and Mary Nicholson (Heinz Redlich), Hamilton, ON; three brothers: Edward McCooey (Marianne), Fort Erie, ON; Leighton (Jocelyn) McCooey, Royston, BC and Patrick McCooey, Grand Falls, as well as by four granddaughters and three grandsons, nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held Monday, October 4th at 2 p.m. from O'Regan's Funeral Home, 515 Everard Daigle Blvd., Grand Falls. Interment will be in the Assumption Parish Cemetery, Portage Road, Grand Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice. www.oregans.ca
