ROBERT GORDON REID

REID, ROBERT GORDON - After a long courageous battle, Robert Gordon Reid of Hampton, husband of Carol (Manuel) Reid occurred October 18, 2004 surrounded by his family at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born at Saint John, son of the late Richard and Irene (Cave) (Hopey) Reid. He resided in Keirsteadville for fifteen years before moving to Hampton in 2001. Bob served with the Royal Canadian Navy from 1957 - 1962. He then was a firefighter with the Parish of Simonds for two years and worked at the Saint John Dry Dock before going to construction and becoming the General Manager for Bourque Mechanical where he worked for twenty five years before retiring in 1997 due to ill health. He was a Pipefitter by trade and was a member of U.A. Local 213, Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. Bob is a Past President of Norton Branch #76, Royal Canadian Legion. He was the Chairman of Royal District Cribbage and had a passion for all card games. His pride and joy were his grandchildren "Partner", "Lover Dover" and "the Two Little Devils". He is survived by his wife Carol, one daughter Deanna Mitchell (Peter) of Musquash; one son Alan Reid (Lynn) of Hampton; one sister Barbara Wright (James) of Public Landing; two brothers William Reid (Lois) of Saint John, Lloyd Reid (Ann) of Midland; one step-sister Deanna Bonvie of Dartmouth, NS; two step-brothers Donald Hopey (Sharon) of French Village, Errol Hopey (Shirley) of Quispamsis; four grandchildren Drake Adams, Carter, Cara and Tyler Reid; two step-grandchildren Peter and Leah Mitchell; several nieces and nephews including special nephew Reginald Reid and special cousin Harold Robertson. He was predeceased by his beloved step-father Harry Hopey. Resting at Reid's Funeral Home (832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton. The funeral will be held Thursday, 10:00am, at St. Alphonsus Church, Hampton, with Rev. Kevin Barry officiating. Interment in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Memorials to Romero House or charity the donor's choice would be appreciated. Visiting 2-4pm and 7-9pm Wednesday. A Legion tribute will be held Wednesday, 6:45pm, at Reid's Funeral Home.
