AMHERST - The death of Catherine (Katie) Augusta Burbine, 94, of Amherst occurred peacefully with her loving family by her side on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Gables Lodge, Amherst. Born in Joggins, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Matilda (Boudreau) Edwards. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, knitting and spending time with her family. Katie was the last surviving member of her immediate family.She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Ellen White of Fort Lawrence; sons, Bill (Jean) of Joggins and Eric (Brenda) of Amherst; daughter in Law, Jeannie Burbine of Joggins; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ben; son, Emmerson "Sonny"; infant daughter, Christina; sisters, Mamie Richard, Janie Martin, Agnes Melanson and Susie Taylor; brothers, Sidney, James, Gerald (Snookie), Jocey and Sandy. A private family visitation was held Sunday evening at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, (667-9906). The funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, July 7, 2008 at 2 p.m. from St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Joggins with Father David MacDonald officiating and Deacon Rick Hartnett assisting, followed by a reception. Interment will take place in the Ragged Reef Cemetery, Joggins.
