JOHN 1926-2006 HOOPER

HOOPER, JOHN 1926-2006 - John Hooper died peacefully at the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre in Hampton on January 26, 2006. Surrounded by his family, beloved wife Kathy, his children Sue (Jack), Rafe (Maureen), John T. (Claudia), Tandi (Andrew) and his grandchildren Julian, Hannah, Isaac, Farren, Lyza, Kate, Dax, Sarah, Max and Sam. John Hooper's colourful human figures in polychromed wood enliven Market Square in Saint John, Parliament Hill in Ottawa, and office courtyards from coast to coast. John was a recipient of the Officer of the Order of Canada, the New Brunswick Award of Excellence and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of New Brunswick. With humour, satire, and his own mysterious imagery, Hooper's compelling sculptures comment on issues of social justice and human triumph over adversity. John was a complex artist, activist, poet and educator. In Search of Inspiration Give me an idea I said, and placing his lips to my ear, he breathed into my head. I must have been asleep, for what I saw was like a dream I could not keep, and when I tried to ask a question he had gone. By John Hooper A huge thank you to the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre for their loving care of John, with special thanks to Janice Ashton, Gena McLeod and Cathy Coleman. Also, in loving memory of Charles Anthony Hooper 1924-2006, John's only brother who died two weeks ago, January 19th in Salisbury, England. All are invited to a gathering at the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre in Hampton on Sunday February 5th between 2:00-5:00. A day of celebration of John's life, for family and friends, will take place on June 24th, 2006 on Hooper Hill! In lieu of flowers all donations can be made to the John Peters Humphrey Memorial Foundation, PO Box 1152, Hampton, NB, E5N 8H2. The arrangements have been entrusted to Reid's Funeral Home (832-5541), Hampton. Online donations and condolences can be made at: www.reidsfh.com
