DR. JOHN SIDNEY "SID" JUNE 14 WRIGHT

WRIGHT, DR. JOHN SIDNEY "SID" JUNE 14, 1919 - AUGUST 22, 2008 - Born in Bedeque, PEI, Dr. Sid Wright was the youngest son of the Hon. Horace and Minnie (Ross) Wright. He spent his childhood working on the family farm, farming oysters and tending a fox farm. He left the Island after high school to attend Dalhousie University where he obtained degrees in science and in medicine. After graduating, Sid served in the R.C.A.M.C. in Canada and Overseas. After World War II he specialized in general surgery and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Canada) and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He established his surgical practice in Moncton and very quickly became known for his dedication, his integrity, and his kind manner with patients and staff. Very active in the medical community, Sid chaired all the major committees of the Moncton Hospital and acted a Chief of Surgery for a term. He was president of the Moncton Hospital Medical Staff, the Moncton and District Medical Society and the New Brunswick Surgical Society, and also served on the Medical Council of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick. After retiring from private practice in 1989, he worked part time for the next ten years in the Pain Clinic at the Moncton Hospital. Sid was an active member of the Moncton Gyro Club, the Moncton Friendship Club, the Probus Club, Pine Needles Golf Club, and the Unitarian church. Prior to his loss of vision in 2006, he pursued many hobbies including fishing, golfing, gardening, cards, cooking, weaving and wine making. He was predeceased by his wife, Minnie (May 5th, 2008), brothers, Ross of Fredericton and Horace of Bedeque, and sister, Winnifred of Boston. He is survived by his sons, Peter (Jeannie) and David (Wendy); daughter Sally; grandchildren Alice (Wilson), Christopher, Jody, Sandy; great grandchildren, Sasha and Nicholas. Funeral service will be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home Chapel, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton (506) 852-3530 on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 2:00 pm followed by a reception in the Garden View Reception Room.
