We regret to announce the passing of Fred Peddle, 92, of 22 Victoria Dr., Sydney Mines, on February 10, 2009, at the Taigh Na Mara Guest Home in Glace Bay, where he had been a resident for the last year and nine months.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Arthur and Mary (Finney) Peddle. He was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines.
Fred was a coal miner for 40 years working in both the Princess and Prince Mines. He also served with the Merchant Seamen in Second World War. He loved to go camping and fishing, and enjoyed going for weekend drives with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, the former Ruby Halliday; his daughter, Camillus (Wayne) Cavanaugh; grandson, Rick Cavanaugh, all of Sydney Mines; his sister, Mrs. Winnie Hubbell, Sarnia, Ont., and his brother, Cecil Finney, Georges River.
Besides his parents, Fred was predeceased by four brothers, Arthur, Thomas, James and John and his adoptive parents, James and Sarah Finney.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. The burial will take place at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
