Gerry Graig Marshall, 23, of Chapel Island, passed away at his home in Chapel Island on February 8, 2009.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of Alexander Marshall of Chapel Island and the late Mary Anastasia (Gloade) Marshall. He was a former employee of the Potlotek Expedition and a seasonal worker for the Chapel Island Band Council. He was trained as a mentor in the past through the Mikmaq Youth Mentoring Program for the youth of Chapel Island. Gerry was very strong in faith and a member of a Charismatic Movement of Cape Breton.
Gerry was an individual who loved trying out new things. He did everything from playing the guitar, he weight-lifted, enjoyed playing pool, video games, enjoyed the computer, 4 wheeling, skateboarding, skiing, swimming, chasing concerts, travelling and being with friends and helping out. He lived a full life and he will be forever remembered for his funny personality.
He was a gentle giant who loved music, especially alternative rock. He had a unique style about him; always introducing new styles of clothing, hairstyles and hobbies. He was a loyal, generous and trusting to all who knew him. He shared a special closeness with his brothers and sisters that cannot be described.
He will be sadly missed, by his special friend Shawna Rose Daigle, Tobique First Nations, New Brunswick; sisters; Nancy Ann Marshall, and her children, Eric Daniel, Brett Daniel, Veronica Rose Bernard (Tyrone) and their children, Jeneva Rose, Tyrone Jackson, Ethan Alexander and Aiden Michael; brothers, Alan Peter Murray Marshall and his companion Mariska, Vernon Wesley Marshall and his companion Dwan and their son, Dallas Vernon, all of Chapel Island; stepbrothers, Stephen Gerald, Winston Joseph; brother-in-law, Michael Joseph Sapier and his mother, Viney Sapier, both of Eskasoni; nieces, Kateri Mary Ann Sapier, Mary Anastasia Sapier; nephew Michael Junior Sapier all of Eskasoni; Alexander Marshall’s fiancée Margie Marshall and her children, Kenneth, Pius, Lloyd, Andrew, Joe P. and Annie Jane and by many special cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by sisters, Alexis Marie, Eugenie Mae and Mary in Infancy; brother, Alexander ‘Kwis’ Marshall; stepmother, Greta Marie, stepbrother, Thomas Duran; niece, Viney Rose and nephew, Louie Thomas George Sapier.
Visitation will be held today after 2 p.m. in the family home at 56 Mountain Road, Chapel Island until Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial to celebrate the life of Gerry will be held at 11 a.m. on February 14, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Barra Head, with Rev. Barrett Clare Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery in Barra Head.
