It is with great sadness the family announce the sudden passing of Doreen Scott, age 62, a resident of Sydney Mines and formerly of North Sydney, on Monday, Feb. 9, 2009 at her home.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Lila (Clarke) Mitchell.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Scott; her daughters, Shirley (Purvie) Power, Sydney Mines, Leeanne (Terry) MacLeod, Glace Bay, Beverly MacNeil, Sydney Mines; her sons, Johnny, Corey, Stephen, all of Sydney Mines and Greg (Tara), Hammonds Plains; stepson, Dickie, Sydney Mines. Doreen is also survived by her five grandchildren, Glenn, Angelita, Chaundelle, Breanna and Kayla, whom she raised after the death of their mother, Mary Lou. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jimmy, Darra, Jeffrey, Mitchell, Isaac, Toryn, Chantel; one great-grandchild, Sarah; two brothers, Harry and Sheldon, both of Glace Bay and sisters, Shirley, Hazel, both of Glace Bay and Lila, Ontario.
She was predeceased by a son, Darryl and her daughter, Mary Lou; a sister ,Etta and a brother, Watson.
Doreen was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by all her family.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service for Doreen will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating.
