We are saddened to announce the passing of Duncan MacDonald, formerly of Mitchell Avenue, Dominion, which occurred Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex.
Duncan was born in Dominion to the late Charles and Mary Ann (Cameron) MacDonald.
Duncan was a proud veteran having served overseas during the Second World War with the Cape Breton Highlanders. He spent most of his working life in Ontario as a production line supervisor before retiring to Cape Breton. A member of St. Anne’s parish, Duncan was an altar server, Eucharistic minister and a Third Order Carmelite. He was a proud member and very dedicated to the work of Alcoholics Anonymous for more than 50 years.
Duncan is survived by his longtime companion and friend ‘Little Jenny’ MacNeil, New Waterford; several stepchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Lillian (nee Butts), brothers, Charles ‘Dink’, James and Angus, sisters, Isabele ‘Belle’ and Jenny.
Visitation will be held this evening (Monday) 7-9 p.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Members of the Carmelite Community will meet at 6:30 p.m. for the Rosary. The funeral mass to celebrate Duncan’s life will be held at St. Anne’s Church Tuesday, 10 a.m., Rev. Leo Boone officiating.
Donations in Duncan’s memory may be made to St. Anne’s St. Vincent de Paul Society or charity of choice.
