Eugene (Gene) LeBlanc

Eugene (Gene) LeBlanc COLLEGE-BRIDGE, NB - Eugene (Gene) Leblanc, 72, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2001 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital. Born in College-Bridge, NB and was the son of the late Clifford and Sara ( Ouellette) LeBlanc, His career consisted of working for C.N.R. for 10 years, then serving as director of Sports and Recreation for Youth in NB for 27 years and finally serving as director of the Memramcook Institute for 8 years. He was also the first Mayor of the Village of Memramcook. Gene had a passion for sports and he played a major role in the organization of sports for youth in the Valley. As a tribute, the local arena was named after him in 1999. As well, he was inducted into the NB Sports Hall of Fame. His volunteer work also includes a 20 year term with the Moncton area School Board. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Golden Age club of Memramcook. He is survived by three sisters, Emma (the late Ernest) LeBlanc of Shediac, Therese (the late Laurie) Sonier of Moncton, Rita (Leopold) LeBlanc of College-Bridge, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest and Gerald. Visitation will be held at Dupuis Funeral Home on Thursday, January 3, 2002, from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. and Friday January 4 from 2 - 6:30 p.m. The funeral will be held at St-Thomas de Memramcook Roman Catholic Church, St-Joseph on Friday January 4 at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be at St-Thomas de Memramcook Roman Catholic Cemetery in Memramcook. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dupuis Funeral Home, Memramcook, N.B.
