It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ramona Marie Gillis, 72, of Victoria Street, Glace Bay on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, at her residence.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Donelda (Webb) MacIntyre.
Ramona was very musically inclined and loved to play the fiddle, piano and guitar. She was a life-long member of the Coal Town Chorus. She wrote a book of poetry and was a songwriter. She thoroughly loved music. She was a member of Branch 3 Legion. She also was involved in the St. Anthony’s St. Vincent de Paul.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Rita Gillard, Michelle (Shelly) MacDonald, Melanie (Robert) Snow, Denise Gillis (Tommy), all of Glace Bay; only son, Dr. William Gillard (Laurie), Chicago; brothers, Donald ‘Mac’ MacIntyre, Ontario; sisters, Lois (Roy) Scott, Ontario, Bernice Butler, Glace Bay, Colleen (Robert) Adams, Ontario, Sally (Jim) Kelly, Glace Bay; 11 cherished grandchildren, Shannon, Matthew, Conar, Jordan, Caroline, Keith ‘Keithie’, Kyle, Brandon, Bethany, Breagh, Jaden (Nana’s Sweetheart Darling Angel Boy).
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her first husband, William Henry Gillard, second husband, Gilbert Gillis.
In honoring Ramona’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating.
Donations in Ramona’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Society or Palliative Care Society.
