We regret to announce the passing of Victor Jackson Harriss, of Kings Road, Sydney, who passed away at home on Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, with his niece, Patricia Harriss by his side.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Richard and Ann Ella (Powell) Harriss.
An innovative and well-known construction businessman for over 60 years, Victor owned & operated Meadows Sand and Gravel Ltd. and Harriss and Harriss Ltd. Vic along with his wife, Joan enjoyed many long hours at their property at Northside East Bay, sailing the "Caprice" on the Bras d’Or Lakes.
He was predeceased by his wife, Joan (Young); sisters, Eunice Harriss and Beatrice Daly; brothers, Herb and Richard.
Vic was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday 2 p.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the United Way or the Salvation Army.
