BARAGAR - Gladys Charlotte Baragar (nee Gammie) of Ponteix, SK, passed away on January 22, 2009. She was born in the Aneroid district on July 22, 1927. She attended school at Quimper. After completing school, she helped her mother run the family farm. Then she worked for the Nagel family of Kincaid as housekeeper and nanny from 1959-1965. When the Nagels moved to BC, Gladys went to work for Claude Baragar and his mother Mae Baragar in the Wallard district. The job evolved into a romance between Claude and Gladys, and the two were married in 1967. They continued farming until 1979, when they sold the farm and moved to Swift Current. They then bought a quarter section east of the city where they spent countless hours on improvements. Gladys and Claude enjoyed many vacations to visit friends and family. In the spring of 2006, Gladys sold her house in Swift Current and moved to live with her sister Andrea in Camrose, AB, for a short time. In December 2006, she moved back to Bridges Personal Care Home in Ponteix where she resided until her passing. Gladys was a quiet, gentle person who loved the simple things in life - a good cup of coffee with friends, a meal with family, board games and card games with Claude and visitors. She was a devoted and loving wife, sister and aunt. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Claude in 2001; her father Andrew Gammie; mother Charlotte (Lottie) Gammie; brother Jim Gammie; brother-in-law Orvy Baragar; sister-in-law Rhea Baragar; brother-in-law Curtis Baragar; nephew Arne Jacobsen; and niece Kathleen Pelletier. She is survived by her sister Andrea McBlain and brother-in-law Robbie McBlain of Wetaskiwin AB; sister-in-law Muriel Baragar of Ponteix, SK; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews. The funeral service was held on January 26, at the Ponteix United Church with Pastor Bradley Julien officiating. Music was provided by the Trinity Gospel Choir. Donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Bridges Personal Care Inc. Lemieux Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
