It is with deep regret and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Margie passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, surrounded by her loving family.
Margie was born in Little Narrows, Cape Breton, to parents, Alex and Lena MacLennan.
She moved to Sydney at an early age and worked at McCurdy’s on Charlotte Street.
She leaves behind the love of her life, her husband of 60 years, Herbert. Margie will be deeply missed by her daughters, Darlene, Sydney and Pat, Yellowknife; sons, Gary (Nancy), Parrsborough and Sandy (Mary), Lower Sackville. Margie also leaves behind her grandchildren, the lights of her life, Stacey Elliott (Trevor); Stephanie Conrad (Joe); Krista VandenBrink (Chad), Kevin Nymark (Natalie), Robyn Wilkie and Mark Wilkie. She will be sadly missed by her dear great-grandchildren, Taylor Elliot, Theo Conrad and Myles Conrad. Also left to mourn her passing are her brothers, Sandy (Ginny) and Jackie (Margie); sisters, Ethel (Steve MacDonald), Ann MacAulay and Eileen (Walter Matheson); sisters-in-law, Edna MacLennan, Eunice (Bill Thomas) and Dini Nymark; many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Predeceased by son, Kevin and brothers, Ken and Gordon.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Welton Street, Sydney on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the chapel on Monday 1 p.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arthritis Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of one’s choice.
