It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Hannah Donovan on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009.
She was a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care for the past 10 years but spent the majority of her life in Sydney’s north-end.
Proud to be born in Ingonish, she was the daughter of the late Rupert and Elizabeth (MacIntosh) Curtis.
Survived by two sons, Curtis Whalen, Sydney, Leonard Whalen (Barbara), Ottawa; three stepsons, Bill Donovan (Jan), Roland Donovan, both of North Sydney, Kenneth Donovan (Rose), Ingonish Beach; five daughters, Betty McInnis, Toronto, Sylvia Lowes (Larry), Clarksburg, Ont., Cecilia Shoniker (John), Kingston, Ont., Bernadette Joseph (Bobby), Anna Radzikowski (Vince), both of Sydney; four stepdaughters, Sharon Williams (Fred), Rosemary LaRusic (John), Ann Hussey (Keith), all of Ingonish and Paula Mayich (John), Lr. Sackville. She is also survived by her sister, Daisy (Steele) MacPherson.
Hannah’s kind heart and ‘treats’ will also be remembered by her 31 grandchildren,18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Leonard Whalen (1972) and second husband, Walter Donovan (1992); one son, Russell (1952) and one son-in-law, Andrew (2007); two sisters, Ethel Ross and Bernice MacNeil and five brothers Tom, Leo, Lauchie, Morris and William.
Visitation for Hannah Donovan will take place on Sunday, Feb. 22, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass to celebrate Hannah’s life will take place on Monday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church with Fr. Anthony O’Connor officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
