Dr. Lionel P. Maillet

Dr. Lionel P. Maillet Dr. Lionel P. Maillet, 83, of Moncton, passed away Tuesday February 17, 2004, at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born May 5, 1920 in Bouctouche, he was the son of the late Léonide Maillet, and the late Virginie Cormier. He practiced dentistry in Bouctouche and Moncton between 1949 and 1997. The "Dentist to the Poor" prided himself on never refusing his services to anyone, regardless of their ability to pay. His artistic talents were also reflected in his wood working, making toys for children and furniture for their parents. Papa was very generous, caring and loved to be with children. He was a founding member of the club Richelieu in Richibucto and became a very active member in Moncton when he moved here in 1955. Many will miss his good humour. He is survived by his children Gabrielle, Marthe (Richard Robichaud), Jean-Pierre, René (Laura), Françoise (Ron Freeman); grandchildren, Jolène, Geneviève, Julien, Vanessa, Jérémie, Zacharie, Daniel; brother, Laurie (Marie); sisters, Anna (Hervé Michaud), Cécile, Antonine; and his former wife Diane (Crawford). He was predeceased by his first wife, Juliette (Richard); a brother, Father Achille; sisters, Thérèse (Albéo Michaud), Sister Jeanne NDSC, Claudette, and Gabrielle. Remains resting at Frenette Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton (8581900). Visiting hours Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. until time of departure (10:50). The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday February 20, 2004 at Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral, Moncton. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe.
