Phyllis Alma (Law) McCrea

Phyllis Alma (Law) McCrea 1921-2005 Phyllis Alma (Law) McCrea, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on October 8, 2005. She was born in Fredericton, the daughter of James William Law and Mary Helen (Graham) Law. She was educated in Fredericton schools, the Provincial Normal School, The University of New Brunswick, and the University of Toronto, graduating with First Class Honors. She was chosen a Beaverbrook Overseas Scholar in 1956 to continue her education towards a Doctorate in Education and Philosophy. Her special interest was the gifted children in the education system. After her marriage to Dr. J. Chipman McCrae in 1956, she did volunteer work in Queen Elizabeth School in Moncton. She was a committed Christian and organizations involving children of her community had her interest and her support. The Girl Guide Organization was a special interest. Before her marriage, she sang with the Ottawa Choral Union and Church Choirs in Ottawa. She was a member of the University Women's Club of Ottawa and Moncton. Before her marriage she taught in Salisbury and the Ottawa Public School system. She also taught and did research with gifted children in the Toronto Public School System. She is survived by one sister, Blanche (Mrs John) Holmes of Middle Musquodoboit, NS. Also, she is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dr. J. Chipman McCrea; one daughter, Dr. Mary Catherine McCrea-Yee and her husband, Dr. Ted Yee of Battle Creek, Michigan; and three sons, Michael and his wife, Lynne, Graham and his wife, Cheryl, and Dr. John McCrea, all of Moncton. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Christopher, Stephanie, Sarah, Miriam and Jonathan. Funeral Service will be held at St. George's Anglican Church at 2pm on Monday, October 10, 2005, Rev. Chris VanBuskirk officiating. Reception in the Church Hall following the service. In her memory, donations may be directed to St. George's Anglican Church or Friends of The Moncton Hospital.
