John Edward Fowler
John Edward Fowler 1929 - 2006 John Edward Fowler, 76, of Moncton died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 as the result of an ATV accident. Born in Moncton on November 9, 1929 he was the son of the late Edward James Fowler and Vera Marjorie (Bell) Fowler. Jack, as he was known to family and friends, was a retired locomotive engineer with 42 years of service at CNR and VIA rail. He was a man of quiet faith in God and a deep devotion to his wife and family. Jack was a selfless man who always made himself available when needed. He was well known for his entertaining stories and the laughs he would generate at any gathering of family or friends. Jack died while doing what he enjoyed most in life, spending time with family and being in the great outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman with a great love for all living creatures and being close to nature; whether it was feeding the raccoons that visited his house nightly or helping gather sap at his brother-in-law's sugar camp every spring. He loved riding his ATV, spending time with other family members travelling the back trails in the woods he loved so much. This helped diminish the loneliness he felt since the passing of his beloved wife, Kaye, on May 13, 2005. They had made many friends throughout Canada and the US on several RV trips after his retirement. Jack will be sadly missed by his family, sons, Carl (Vickie), Mark (Dianne); daughters, Brenda Gillis (Peter) and Susan Cann (John) all of Moncton; seven grandchildren, Aaron Fowler (Sarah) of Ottawa, Shelley Hopper (Jeffery), Natalie Sorrey (Ryan), Rebecca Davis (Andrew), Thomas Cann and twins, Mark and James Cann; four great grandchildren, Mark Davis, Eliza Hopper, Lochlainn Sorrey and Ashlynn Sorey; brothers, Don Fowler (Frances) and Dan Fowler (Phyllis) of Moncton; as well as several nieces, nephews and many close friends. Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Kathleen (2005) and a brother Bill (1996). Resting at Fair Haven Funeral Home, with Visitation on Friday, October 20 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 11:00 am with Pastor Jay Guptill officiating. Interment will be in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens. A reception will be held following the service in the Garden View Reception Room of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation, the Wesleyan Church Building Fund or to a memorial of choice would be appreciated by the family. For people of faith, death is only a door in the dark, which when it swings open ushers us into eternal light.
