Robert John Vater
10-23-64 - 08-08-08. It is with great sadness that John has been taken from this world, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 43, at the Cowichan District Hospital, in Duncan B.C. In the West, John leaves behind his beloved wife Monique; his German Shepherds Midnight & Hudson and an extended Desjardins family. From Newfoundland, he leaves behind his daughter Stephanie Anne; mother and parents Harold and Alice; sisters: Gail, Brenda, Olive, and Paula; brothers: Stephen and Larry and numerous nieces and nephews on both the East and West Coasts. John spent more than 25 years of devoted service in the Canadian Military and had recently retired. For this, his everlasting legacy will be honoured in the Field of Honor, National Military Cemetery in Ottawa. John loved and enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, ATVing and most of all his Truck. On numerous occasions he could be heard saying that we should enjoy each day as though it were our last. For this reason he would want all who new him to celebrate his life and remember him with a smile instead of tears. A celebration of his life is being held in Newfoundland at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the BC Cancer Agency. Online condolences may be offered at hwwallacecbc.com H.W.
