John A. (Jack) Bell

John A. (Jack) Bell 1935-2007 John (Jack) Alfred Bell of Princess Street, Miramichi, NB loving husband of Kay (Kennedy) Bell, passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 72, on October 26, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his devoted wife and family. In addition to his wife of 47 years, Jack is survived by his six children, Carmel (Rick) Sargent, Lynn Ogilvie, Margie (David) Robichaud, Gary Nowlan, Jackie (Myles) Brideau and Wilson (Cheryl) Bell; grandchildren, Jodie, Kyle, Greg, Steven, Aaron, Karen, Laura, Joel, Ryan, Jonathan, Jillian, Tanis, Michael, Josh, Kennedy, Braden; and great grandchildren, Jared and Morgan. He is survived by sisters, Glornnah Savage of Riverview, Joan Mahoney and brother Herbie Bell of Miramichi; along with several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Sarah and Wilson Bell, Jack was predeceased by his sister, Carol Murphy. Jack was employed by the Town of Chatham Police Department, serving the citizens of the Town of Chatham from the formation of the force in 1968 until he retired as the Chief of Police in 1994. Jack was a retired member of the Knights of Columbus 1219, an original founder of Miramichi Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Board Member of the Chatham Non-Profit Housing Corporation, Board Member of the Block Parent Program, and a member of the New Brunswick Police Chiefs Association. Jack's passion was spending time with his family. He also enjoyed travelling, gardening, reading, walking, and daily coffee breaks with friends at the Morada. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Adam's Funeral Home. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at Saint Michael's Basilica on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at 11:00 am. Visitation at Adam's Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King Street, on Sunday evening, from 7 to 9 and Monday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Please note, vigil prayers will be held at the funeral home on Monday afternoon, at 1:45 pm. At the request of the family, donations can be made to the Sandra Conroy Memorial Scholarship Fund, Saint Michael's Basilica Building Fund, or the Palliative Care Unit at the Miramichi Regional Hospital.
