
Ralph "Deane" Lockhart
Ralph "Deane" Lockhart 1928 - 2008 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ralph "Deane" Lockhart, 79, of Hillsborough. He passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Moncton Hospital with his family by his side, after a brief illness. Deane was born in Moncton on July 20, 1928 the son of the late Ralph E. and Mary V. (Smith) Lockhart. Deane received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from McGill University in 1949 and began his career in Montreal as a florist. He later moved back to NB, studied accounting and worked for T. Eaton Company for several years. Prior to his retirement he was employed with T. P. Downey & Sons of Hillsborough as their accountant. He was a member of the Hillsborough United Church where he was organist and choir director for over 50 years. He also was the organist for the Silver Chords Choir of Hillsborough. He took great pride and pleasure in his own garden putting his talent for horticulture to use. Many local wedding memories have been photographed in his beautiful garden in Hillsborough. He also was treasurer of Grey's Island Cemetery and enjoyed sharing it's history. Deane dearly loved his grandchildren and was keenly interested in all they had to say. Some of Deane's memorable qualities were his dedication, kindness and genuine concern for others. Deane will be remembered in the hearts of many for his gifts of music, wisdom, compassion and wit. He will be deeply missed by his wife of nearly 50 years, Shirley (Wright) Lockhart; his four daughters, Janet Malenfant of Moncton, Patricia Lockhart at home, Anne Terris (Darren) of Lower Coverdale and Lucie Brown (Bob) of Fredericton; by his six precious grandchildren, Margot , Luc, Lindsey, Shannon, Logan and Megan; also by his three sisters, Jessie Blight (Bill) and Connie Ward of Riverview and Shirley Ford (Robert) of Point Du Chene. He will also be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews and by many good friends. Besides his parents he was predeceased by sister Pamela Wall; brother-in-law, Harold Ward and by his nephew/godson, John Ford. He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Friday, February 29, 2008 from 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Hillsborough United Church on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 2:00pm with Rev. Carol Mullin officiating. Following the service the family will be meeting with relatives and friends at the church for further sharing of memories and for refreshments. Interment will be in Grey's Island Cemetery at a later date. Donations to the Hillsborough United Church or to the Grey's Island Cemetery would be greatly appreciated by the family.
