It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Christena MacMillan, 88, on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Sarah MacMullin. She was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines. Mom was happiest when she had a houseful of family in playing cards and sharing laughs and stories. She\'ll be remembered for her fabulous home made bread and pies. Mom\'s kindness and generosity was far reaching and will be remembered by many.
Christena is survived by her son, Michael (Debbie), Coldbrook and daughters, Mary (Tom), Halifax and Joanne (Barry), Newmarket, Ont. She will be sadly missed by her sister, Rodena Moore, Sydney Mines; her grandchildren, Alexandria, Iain and Kristyn and many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the staff at the Northside Community Guest Home and Dr.
Doug Kohlsmith for their care and love.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alex; sisters, Katie, Effie, Florence, Margaret and Annie Mae and brothers, Roddie, Archie, Rory, John, and Michael.
Visitation for Christena MacMillan will be held in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass celebrating her life will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. J.J. MacDonald officiating. The interment will be at a later date.
Donations in Christena\'s memory may be made to the Parkinson\'s Society, or to the Colitis Society.
