SHARON ESTHER NICKERSON
NICKERSON, SHARON ESTHER - It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Sharon, at her home in Cambridge, NS. Over the past two years, Sharon faced her illness with extraordinary courage and dignity... a braver person, we have never known. Sharon was born on June 29th, 1950 in Halifax, the daughter of the late Maynard and Esther (Canning) Brown, (Grand Lake). Sharon's strongest devotion was to her beloved husband Barrie, and their pride and joy, Nicole Alexandra. She is survived by her husband, Barrie; daughter, Nicole; sisters, Catherine, Halifax; Merriam, Ottawa; Aunt Marg, Aunt Barb, Aunt Lottie, Aunt Mary, Uncle Buzz and numerous cousins. Sharon was born in Halifax, and grew up in Moncton, graduating from Moncton High School in 1968. She married shortly after and eventually settled in New Minas, NS where she worked with G.R. Saunders Ltd. until her retirement. Sharon waited patiently every year for spring and the chance to get out in her garden. She and Barrie were best friends, loved to take long drives in the country and stop at all the yard sales. She treasured the weekend get-a-ways (with just us "Girls") to the Riverview Cottages and revisiting all the special spots on the Parrsboro shore. We would like to thank Sharon's medical community. It is through their support and good work that Sharon was able to remain at home as she wished. We cherish every moment we had with Sharon and consider making the journey with her a privilege and a blessing. The family wishes to convey a special thank you to Sharon's closest friend, Judy Arenburg. Judy's special attention, her sweetness and great understanding of this part of Sharon's life carried Sharon through, and allowed us to help Sharon spend the rest of her life in the best possible way. We also want to thank our cousin, Carole who gave great support and comfort to Sharon, having challenged the same disease. Sharon, like her mum, was a sweet and gentle soul...attributes that cancer never considers before invading. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation or carry out an act of kindness for someone in need. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. A service, followed by a reception, will take place at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 5, 2010, in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Doctor Judith Saunders officiating. Private messages of condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com (under Current Funerals on the right of the page). Sharon won her battle with cancer, leaving it behind on January 1st, 2010, and moved on to a higher place. We will miss her so. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
