Carmel (Lorway) Chase

1939-2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carmel (Lorway) Chase on Dec. 13, 2008, at the QEII Health Services Centre, Halifax. Carmel was born in Sydney, N.S., and for a number of years she spent in parts of Canada where her late husband, Earl Chase would be posted. She later settled in Canso, N.S., where she spent many hours with the people there in the town she loved so dear. She has gone home to be embraced by her late father and mother, John Lorway and Charlotte (Spears) Lorway; her twin sister, Joan Lorway and her late husband, Earl Chase. She leaves behind her loving partner and friend, Danny Parker, Canso; daughters, Carol Ann Steel, Sydney, Darlene Hardy (Robert), Grand Prairie, Alta., Wendy Chase (David), Hammonds Plains, Barbara Cater (Dennis), Halifax, Joan Chase (Kevin), Halifax; and son, Stephen Chase (Barb), Grand Prairie, Alta. She is also survived by sisters, Jane (Sid) LaRusic, Sydney, Sr. Margaret Ann Lorway fj., Moncton, N.B.; and brother, Ronald (Shirley) Lorway; along with 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Carmel worked at Sears Canada for 28 years and after moving to Canso became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at 10 a.m. at St. Ignatius Church, Bedford, with Fr. Lloyd O'Neil officiating, this service will be followed by a reception. The remains will then be moved to Canso where a mass of celebration will be held for Carmel, Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at 2 p.m. in Star of The Sea Church, celebrant Fr. Danny Boudreau. Committal will be in Star of The Sea Cemetery in Canso. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of N.S. or to a charity of your choice.
