RUBY WHITNEY

WHITNEY, RUBY - The death of Ruby Evelyn (Dunnett) Whitney RN wife of the late Sterling Whitney of Whitney, NB, occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the age of 78. Born in Whitney, NB, Ruby was the daughter of the late William and Estella (Lobban) Dunnett. Ruby was the organist of St. Philip's United Church in Whitney for many years and served on numerous committees for St. Philip's United Church and the Red Bank Pastoral Charge. Ruby graduated from the Chatham Grammar School in 1948 and went on to graduate from the Miramichi Hospital. She was a member of the Miramichi Hospital Nurses Alumni and Retired Nurses Association. She was very active within the community including being very involved with the following groups or organizations, St. Philip's UCW, Prince Charles Chapter # 27 Order of the Eastern Star, past Matron and Grand Representative to Iowa, Whitney Willing Workers, NB Highland Society at Miramichi and the Jolly Knitters. Ruby also was an honorary member of Prince Andrew Chapter # 42 Order of the Eastern Star and retired from the Miramichi Hospital Medical Records Administration. Ruby is survived by: three daughters: Janice Shannon (Ronald) of South Esk, NB, Brenda and Darlene Whitney of Whitney, NB; two sisters: Eleanor Stewart (Edwin) of Thunder Bay, ON; Thelma Stewart (Hayward) of Fredericton, NB; three brothers: Murray (Helen) of Fredericton, NB; Gregory (Rose) of Cambridge Narrows, NB and Weldon (Elizabeth) of Whitney, NB; three grandchildren: Matthew (Stephanie) of Newcastle, NB, Nathan (Catherine) of River-du-loop and Whitney of South Esk, NB; great granddaughter: Madisson Shannon and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Bell's Funeral Home on Thursday from 7 to 9 pm and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held from the Sterling Bell Memorial Chapel on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2 pm with Rev. Blair Whyte officiating. Burial will take place in St. Philip's United Church Cemetery later in the spring. In Ruby's memory a donation may be made to St. Philip's United Church, or Prince Charles Chapter # 27 Order of the Eastern Star.
