We, the family, are very sorry to announce the death of Gerald Wilson on Monday, March 1, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of Peter ‘Buddy’ Wilson and Irene (Murphy) Wilson.
Gerald worked in No.12 Colliery and was also known as a piano player. He and Joe Petrie were loved and enjoyed by all who attended the local variety concerts.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his many trout fishing trips with his nephews and brothers.
He is survived by one sister, Irene (Wilfred Crummey) and by one brother, Tommy (Marjorie). He is also survived by stepdaughter, Germaine (John) Durdle and stepson, Johnny (Brenda) Helle, step-grandchildren John, Kevin and step great-grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Richard, Leslie (infancy), Bernard (Ton), Russell, Earl, Cecil, Clayton and Lloyd and by one sister, Thelma (Marshall Jessome). Gerald was also predeceased by his best friend and companion, Isabelle Helle.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to Tom Donovan and the staff of Dominion Community Guest Home for the excellent care and attention that Gerald received during his past six years as a resident.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place, under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home Ltd., 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford (862-7500). Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m on Friday, March 5, 2010, at the Parish Church of St. Leonard’s, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford, with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at a later date. A reception and luncheon will take place after the funeral at the parish hall, 310 Convent St., New Waterford, all are welcome to attend.
