Surrounded by his loving family, John H. Clarke passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Northside General Hospital.
Born July 5, 1942, John was the son of the late Edgar and Margaret (Lamey) Clarke of Sydney Mines.
John is survived by his loving wife, Tessie; as well as his five children, John Jr., Sydney Mines, Annette, Petawawa, Ont., Lawrence (Angeline), Marion Bridge, Teri Claridge (Mike), Halifax, and Cyndi McGean (Paul), North Sydney. He leaves behind five grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Lawrence Claridge, BrianPaul and Stephen McGean and Sarah and Theresa Clarke. He is also survived by brothers, Lawrence, Gadsby, Alta., Edgar (Donalda), Sydney Mines, and Daniel (Ellen), Sydney Mines as well as sisters, Gertie Jessome (Earl), Sydney River, and Margie Hawkins (Jimmy), Sydney Mines.
Along with his parents, John was predeceased by a sister, Hilda, and his infant daughter, Margaret Anne.
John was a former employee of Marine Atlantic as well as an avid outdoorsman. His love of nature is a legacy that will be carried on by his children and theirs. His ever-present sense of humour shone through right to the very end and will always bring a smile to those he leaves behind.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, Archibald Avenue, North Sydney on Friday, March 5 at 10 a.m. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
