Marjorie (Stead) MacIntosh

Born: November 17th, 1913

95, North Sydney It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother 'Marge' at the Northside General Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Marjorie was born Nov. 17, 1913, in Belle Island, N.L. She was the daughter of the late Archdeacon John Stead and Margaret (Thompson) Stead. Together with her parents, Marjorie lived in Durham, England, Centerville, New Brunswick, Dayspring, Halifax and North Sydney. She received her education from Kings-Edgehill School, Normal College and Dalhousie University before beginning her teaching career at Regent Street School in North Sydney. After her marriage to Johnny MacIntosh, she lived in Toronto for several years before returning to North Sydney. Marjorie retired as principal of Fairview Elementary School in 1979, after teaching for 32 years. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Johnny, brother Dr. Lewelyn Stead and sister Joan Mumford. She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Marsh (Tommy), with whom she resided and her son, John, Valencia, Calif. Also surviving are her granddaughters, Leeann (Jeff) Higgins, Diane (Michael) Sampson and Kristi (Chris) Hobrecker; great-granddaughters, Claire, Halle, Callia and Cayden; and sister-in-law, Joan Stead. She will be sadly missed by her furry friend, Ali. Visitation will be held Friday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at 2:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, King Street, North Sydney. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
