Passed peacefully from the loving arms of her daughter Elizabeth into the loving arms of Jesus on Wednesday, March 3, 2010. Phyllis will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Cyril, of 57 years; daughter Elizabeth, son-in-law Karl Bidgood; granddaughters Jessica and Charlotte; brothers Bobby Weir (Marie) and Cyril Weir (Verna); sisters-in-law Marguerite Weir, Florence Weir, Stella (Murray Evans), Mamie (Jack Howlett) and Joan Whitten; brothers-in-law: Max Whitten (Blanche), Ronald Whitten (Gert), Leonard (June) and Victor Whitten (Barbara); and a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including Muriel Andrews and special friends Dulcie Janes and Rosa Chaytor. Phyllis was born in Petty Harbour on January 9, 1927. She is predeceased by her parents Harold and Jessie Weir, infant sister Maple, brothers Herbert Weir and Lloyd Weir and brother-in-law Robert Whitten. A gentle woman, Phyllis’ kindness and smile will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. A special thank-you to all the staff at St. Luke’s Home for the care and compassion shown to Phyllis during the past seven years and the support and kindness to Elizabeth, especially during the past few days. Family and friends will be received at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Thursday, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., Friday 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 - 12:00 noon. A service to celebrate Phyllis’ life will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6. 2010 at St. George’s Anglican Church, Petty Harbour. Interment to follow at St. George’s Anglican Cemetery.
