EDWARD HEWKO
Edward Walter Hewko passed away at Victoria Hospital on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the age of 86 years. Edward was born on March 26, 1923 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. During World War II, he served overseas with the Lake Superior Regiment. After the war, Edward lived in Vancouver until the death of his father (1953) drew him back to P.A., to help his mother care for his younger brothers and sisters. His first job in Prince Albert was with the Burns Meat Packing Plant. Later, as a vet, he was employed by Canada Post where he worked until he retired. In his free time, Edward enjoyed watching the NHL hockey games on TV, and in later years, the History Channel. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church. Edward will be dearly missed by his brother David Hewko of Prince Albert, and his sisters Mary (John) Litwin of Leduc, Alberta and Eleanor Simonson of Prince Albert. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins in Canada and the United States. He was a compassionate and gentle brother, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Bernice Hewko; his brothers Joseph and Stanley Hewko and his sisters Alice Smith and Helen Hewko. He was also predeceased by his brothers-in-law Albert Smith and George Simonson and nephew Tony Litwin. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 8 from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church 260 - 25th Street East by The Reverend Father Matthew Nguyen. Interment will take place in the Garden of Sermon on the Mount, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. The family is grateful to the staff at the Victoria Hospital for the compassionate care he received. It is the family’s request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation (1200 - 24th Street West Prince Albert, Saskatchewan S6V 5T4).
