63, Louisbourg It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of 'Mick' on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, while in respite at Harbourstone Enhanced Care. Mick lived in Louisbourg and was cared for and loved by Peter and Michele (Peters) Somers, as well as their children, Mackenzie, Crewe and Eve. For many years, he attended Horizon Achievement Centre and was a joy to all. Mick was a gentle soul, who loved to smile and hug the people who were dear to him. He played guitar, stepdanced and loved to listen to music in his spare time. Everyone who has been touched by Mick's kind spirit has been changed in some way or another. Mick was born with Down's syndrome, but that was not the first thing people focused on when meeting him. It was his infectious love of life and people. We will deeply miss Mick and know he is making others happy in heaven. Mick has a large extended family in all the 'Peters' relatives who accepted him into the family 15 years ago, unconditionally and with lots of love. We, his caregivers, would like to extend a special thank you to all our friends from Louisbourg, Sydney, P.E.I. and Ontario, who also have been very kind and accepting of Mick over the years. We do not have a "conventional" family setup and are very impressed with the caring, loving friends and neighbours we have encountered since moving to Louisbourg 10 years ago. In 1986, Mick was predeceased by his father, Conrad. Surviving are his mother, Rolande, Laval, Que.; sister, Francine D'Aoust (Norm), Saskatoon, Sask.; brothers, Jean-Serge (Suzanne), Lorraine, Que., and Luc (Linda), Thurso, Que.; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at St. Bartholomew Church, Louisbourg, Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Fred Rhymes officiating, followed by a reception in the church hall.
