Passed on: January 3rd, 2009

Sydney Mines Dec. 23, 1921 - Jan. 3, 2009 With broken hearts and sadness, we the family of George Arthur Morrison, 15 Jacob St., announce his passing on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, in the Veteran's Wing of Harbour View Hospital, where he had resided for only a short time. Born in Sydney Mines, Art was the son of the late William and Cecilia Morrison. Daddy was a veteran of the Second World War. He started his service with the Royal Canadian Artillery, and finished with the Winnipeg Royal Rifles. He worked at Princess Colliery and then at the Victoria Junction Preparation Plant until his retirement. Daddy loved to go to card games, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and most of all his Sunday afternoon drives. In early years, Daddy played ball with the Sydney Mines Ramblers, and loved to bowl and go ice fishing. Art is survived by his daughter, Marie (Ronnie) Jessome, Florence; and his son, Raymond (Lois) Morrison, Sydney; grandchildren, Rhonna, Paula (Brian), Raylene and Timmy (Joanna) Jessome; four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Baylee, Faaron Jessome and Samuel Kahn. He is also survived by a sister, Shirley Elgie, Ontario; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Art was predeceased by his wife, Anne Rita Morrison, and sisters, Joan Archer and Dorothy Morrison. Daddy was a very kind and gentle man who touched the lives of many who knew him. He will be missed greatly. We would like to thank the nursing staff of 2 West, 5 East, and the renal dialysis unit at the Northside General Hospital, Dr. Andrew Wawer, and the staff at Harbour View Hospital for the excellent care they provided. Visitation for Arthur Morrison will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, today (Monday, Jan. 5,2009), from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of his life will take place on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. J.J. MacDonald officiating. Donations in Art's memory may be made to the Northside Hospital Foundation. Online condolences may be sent to the family at jmjobesfuneralhome@ns.aliantzinc.ca.
