Age 85, of Sydney, N.S., passed away peacefully at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility in Sydney on Friday, March 5, 2010.
Born in Prince Edward Island, he was the son of the late Hunter and Bessie (Cail) Weeks. Byron is survived by his daughters, Linda Weeks, Debert; and Joan Weeks (Richard MacKinnon), Sydney; grandchildren Lachlan, Breagh and Connall MacKinnon; and sisters, Blanche England and Anna Morris in Summerside, P.E.I. Byron was predeceased by his wife, Isabel (Donald); brothers, Frank and Clair; and sisters, Jean, Molly and Murial.
Byron grew up near Alberton, P.E.I., and attended Prince of Wales College. He lived in Amherst for many years, where he worked at the post office. In his retirement, his passion was curling, highlighted by winning the provincial postal championship and competing in the nationals. Byron moved to Sydney in 2005 to be near family.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service was held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Monday, March 8, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Montrose, P.E.I.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton University, ECMA Rotary Scholarship.
