STEPHENSON: Mary Margaret Stephenson, age 100 years of Swift Current, SK and formerly of Simmie, SK, passed away February 27, 2010 at the Swift Current Care Centre. She was born on November 22, 1909 on her parents homestead near Duval, SK. She received her teaching certificate from the Regina Normal School. Margaret came to Simmie, SK. in 1933 to teach at Cedar View School. It was here she met a young man of the community, Leslie Stephenson. They were married December 25, 1935 in Regina, SK. She continued to teach in the district until her children started to arrive. Mary and Leslie farmed and later became partners in business in Simmie. Being a life-long learner and teacher, she returned to teaching in the 60's for a few years. Mary and Leslie retired from business in 1976. While in Simmie she was active with the United Church U.C.W., the Welfare Club, the Birthday Club and attending card parties. The couple moved to Swift Current in 1982, moving into their first new home. She took great enjoyment belonging to the Eastern Star, the U.C.W.the Swift Current Artist's Guild, the bowling leagues avd the Swift Current Senior's Centre. She loved to play bingo, cards, shuffleboard and scrabble, Mary loved to paint, using oils, pastels and watercolors. She painted until she was 98 years old. She enjoyed intertaining and celebrations held for their 25th, 40th, 50th, 60th and 70th anniversaries and lastly her 100th birthday, were memorable events. Mary was a devoted and caring person. She loved spending time with her family and took great pride and interest in everyon's endeavoours. She enjoyed her years of living in the Heritage Towers, moving there in 1995. In 2007, she became a resident of the Swift Current Care Centre. Mary was predeceased by her parents: Archibald and Catherine Campbell, her siblings: Irene, Archie, Earl, Jack, Kay and Harold, her husband Leslie 2006, son-in-law Bert Jordan in 2003 and her daughter-in-law Rosemary Stephenson 2004. She is survived by her four children: Faye Jordan, Swift Current, SK; John, Saskatoon, SK.;Tom (Willa) Weyburn, SK; Glennys (Dean) Uzelman, North Battleford, SK; grandchildren: Leslie (Alan) Sharp, Scott (Laurie) Jordan, Karen (Scott) Cowan, Nancy Jordan, Brian and Cameron Stephenson, Greg (Jamie) Stephenson, Shawna (Lonnie) Hoy, Diane (Jeff) Kardynal, Dara Uzelman and Stephen Uzelman. She is also servived by 16 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and nuberous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mary's Life was held on March 2, 2010 from First United Church, Swift Current, SK with Reverend Kevin Johnston officiating. The interment service was held in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. Pallbearer were grandsons and the ushers were her granddaughters.
