SPINNEY, Walter Isaac – 64, of Melbourne, Yarmouth Co., died at home on February 28, 2010, with family and friends at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Lower Argyle on April 16, 1945, he was a son of the late James and Isabelle (Allen) Spinney. Walter will be remembered as a kind and caring man to all who knew him. He always put family and friends before himself. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, and especially enjoyed his hunting camp in Quinan. Walter also loved the water. He worked as a fisherman and moss harvester. He was a member of the Melbourne Dart Club. He is survived by his wife, Ann (Deviller); sons, Walter (Sonia), Garth (Kerry), Darryl (Maryse) and Warren (Rhonda); daughter, Victoria (Julien); brothers, Ashton (Arlene), Edward (Gloria), Roy (Anne), Almond (Marcia), Carl (Michelle) and Aubrey (Celia); sister, Anna (Dick); grandchildren, Stephen, Jolene, Emma, Sylvie, Molly, Mikey, Franki, Arielle, Morgan, Abbie and Gracie. He was predeceased by sister, Audrey Elizabeth. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Yarmouth. Visitation took place Tuesday, March 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held Wednesday, March 3 at 2 p.m., Rev A.D. “Bill” Newell and Ashton Spinney officiated. Both took place in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Melbourne. A reception followed the interment in Melbourne Community Hall. Family flowers only, please. Donations in memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses (Tri-County Branch) or the Canadian Cancer Society. The family would like to thank Dr. Webster, staff of the 3rd and 4th floor of Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Yarmouth County V.O.N. and to Home-Care.
