Daniel Wylie Church

Nov. 5, 1946-Jan. 5, 2009 Daniel Wylie Church of Coxheath passed away on Jan. 5, 2009, after a lengthy struggle with cancer. Dan is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; son, Randy (Tyra) and three very special grandchildren, Wylie, Makayla and Daniel; sister, Jayne Lane and niece Jenna; aunts, June Sanford and Lorraine Mitchell, Ontario; father and mother-in- law, James (Muriel) MacCormack; brothers-in-law, Nelson (Donette) MacCormack and Ross (Edna) MacCormack. Dan also leaves to mourn, Dorothy Lapierre and special friends, Charlie Bonaparte, Maria Sophecleous, Glen Walsh and Debbie MacVicar. Dan enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 17, serving in Canada and overseas as a chef. After retiring from the Navy, he also worked for 15 years at the Halifax County Rehab Centre. Both Dan and Ruth retired to Cape Breton, where they enjoyed being together with family and friends. Dan especially enjoyed cooking for family gatherings, camping with Ruth and their grandchildren, cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs with Jim and most recently, their trips down south. Cremation has taken place. A service in memory of Dan will be held 2 p.m. January 10, 2009 at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexander St., Sydney. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Palliative Care Unit (CBRH), the VON, or a charity of your choice, would be greatly appreciated.
