Elizabeth Marie 'Betty' Barrie

79, Sydney Mines It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Elizabeth 'Betty' Barrie, 79, on Jan. 6, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Katie (Morrison) Stewart. Betty was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and the ladies auxiliary. She enjoyed quilt-making, sewing, knitting, reading and spending time at Groves Point, enjoying a good game of cards with family and friends. In May of 2008, Phonse and Betty had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Betty is survived by her husband, Alphonse; daughters, Debbie (David) Maddock and Shirley LeBlanc; grandsons, John, Chris and Jeffrey; and a brother, Roderick 'Poddie' (Vera) Stewart, Edmonton, Alta. She is also survived by a great-grandson, Carson Bardswich. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Katie and son-in-law, Mike LeBlanc. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory may be made to the VON. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home.
