1960-2009 Glace Bay It is with deep sorrow we announce the untimely passing of John Frederick O'Neil, 48, of Currie Street, Glace Bay, who passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at the Glace Bay hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. John was the son of Gaffy and Elaine (Clements) O'Neil of Port Morien. John is survived by his loving wife, Cathie (Napier) O'Neil; his beloved daughters, Natasha (Paul) Boutilier, Georgetown, Ont., Elisha (Jason MacDonald), Glace Bay; loving stepson, Anthony Napier, at home; treasured grandchildren, Blake, Madison and Elice; his loving sisters, Cheryl (Jamie) Anderson, Black Brook, Rhonda (Stewart) MacPherson, Waddens Cove, and Joanne (Barry) MacLeod, Glace Bay. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, all close to his heart. A truck driver by trade, John was happiest when at the wheel of any vehicle. Until his illness, he was employed at M & B Wholesale in Glace Bay. John loved hunting, fishing, the woods, his backyard fires and especially the bungalow. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 55 and the mixed dart league at Port Morien. John was predeceased by his first wife, Brenda Lee (White) O'Neil in 2003 as well as his grandparents, dear aunts and uncles. Visitation today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Legion members will meet at 7 p.m. and Fr. Conrad Edwards will conduct a vigil service at 7:15 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Port Morien, Fr. Edwards officiating; and a reception will follow at the Branch 55 Port Morien Legion. Donations in John's memory, may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Patient Care Fund or Palliative Care.
