79, Sydney We, the family of John Sorhaitz, are saddened to announce his passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Friday, Jan. 9, 2009. Born in Sydney, he was the eldest son of the late John and Alfreda (Huett) Sorhaitz. For 41 years, John worked for Sydney Steel. He was an active member of the Canadian Council for the Blind and various bowling leagues. John is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Theresa M. (MacDonald); daughter, Joni (Joe) Bates, Sydney; grandchildren, Melissa and Brandon Bates; sister, Anne Doyle, Sydney; brother, Hubert (Helen), St. Johns, Nfld.; brother-in-law, Russ Doyle, London, Ont.; sister-in-law, Regina Sorhaitz, Whitby, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Melvin in 2006. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Will MacPherson officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
