Edward (Ted) Pryor quietly passed away at home surrounded by all his family early in the morning Friday, March 12, 2010. Born in 1931 in Middle Musquodoboit, son of the late Richard and Winnifred Pryor, Ted spent all his life in Truro. He owned and operated the Sunrise Restaurant; Brookfield, Ted’s Take Out, and Pryor’s Restaurant for a number of years before opening The Iron Kettle on Prince Street. Ted always had time to stop and talk to the great number of his friends and acquaintances. He was very active in community affairs being involved with the Y’s men Club, Jr. B Bearcats, TDCL, the Parking Commission and other town committees. Ted was a life member of Colchester Branch 26 of the Royal Canadian Legion and was the first associate member to serve as president. He received many honours from the legion including the Meritorious Service Medal, the highest award given by the Legion. Being famous for his fish and chips, he brought them to the Legion as a fund raiser and for many years planned and cooked for the weekly Legion Senior Dinners. Ted was an honorary member of the Beta Sigma Phi. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia (Logan), daughters; Susan (Joel) Pratt, Catherine (Norman) Moore, Janice (Greg) Power, Joanne (Geoff) Stewart, grandchildren, Jason (Stephanie), Jonathan (Mi Sun), Michael (Desirée) Pratt, Christina (Cory) MacMaster, Alena (Dave) Martin, Paul Moore, Anthony, Brittany, Cathleen Power, Nicole (Brad) Poplar, Matthew (Kala) Stewart and 12 great-grandchildren, brothers; Roger (Chris), Robert (Marion), sister Winnifred Helpard, and sister-in-law Katherine (Emery) Grant. Ted was predeceased by brothers, Leonard, Harry, Dick and sister Patsy. Thanks to Drs. Berghuis and Henderson, Dawn Martell, the Palliative Care System, the VON, Drs. Wood and Rutledge and the Cancer Centre in Halifax. Special thanks to neighbours and friends for all their help and love. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with a Royal Canadian Branch 26 Tribute Service at 6:45 pm; memorial service on Monday at 2:00 pm all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Judith Perry and Leland MacLean D.L.M. officiating. Spring interment in Watson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ted’s memory to the Colchester Legion #26 Building Fund, the CEHHA Palliative Care System or the Colchester Regional Hospital Fund.
