PICTOU – REID, Alice Pearl Reid, 95, of Pictou, passed away suddenly March 12, 2010 in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born and raised in Pictou, she was a daughter of the late Fernie & Roseanne Mills. A devout member of St. James Anglican Church, Pictou, Alice was a choir member for over 75 years. She was noted for her excellent baking skills, and was an active fund raiser, and faithfully served on various church organizations, being recognized by the parish members for her devotedness over so many years on several occasions. A loving mother and grandmother, she always remembered dates important to each and every member of her family...their birthdays and anniversaries. She often reminisced about earlier times in her life, and spoke of the beautiful needlework of her own grandmother. She had an apron of this hand sewn quality and loved to show it to visitors. She loved to travel and enjoyed her visits to Ontario, and was thrilled to spend time with her great grandchildren. Dancing was also a passion of Alice’s, and she and her husband Herman were well known for their special dance steps. Alice was predeceased by her husband Herman; and daughter, Jean McGuire; sisters, Jenny Baker, Ida McAulay; and brother, Warnie Mills. She is survived by her son, Gerald (Eileen) Reid, Kitchener, Ontario; grandchildren, Glenn (Margaret) McGuire, Peter McGuire, Paul McGuire, Susan (Reid) Bell, David Reid; and great grandchildren, Shannon and Andrew were very fortunate to have known Alice; caring nephews and their wives, Donnie & Marlene McAulay, Milton and Claudette McAulay have been there for Alice and cared for her in many daily needs; friends, Bruce & Eleanor Heighton, and Nita Rushton were always dear to Alice. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 PM Monday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place 11:00 Am Tuesday from St. James Anglican Church, Pictou, with Archdeacon Peter Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the St. James Anglican Church, Pictou.
