Rita Margaret Pinhorn

78, Victoria Mines Rita Pinhorn, 78, of Victoria Mines, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late James and Alice MacIssac. She retired as a PCW from Spring Garden Villa (Breton Bay Nursing Home). Rita was a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and wonderful friend to all. She enjoyed knitting, making quilts and preserves to share with her family. She also enjoyed shuffle board, bowling, and darts. In her earlier years she taught sewing at Low Point School. She always enjoyed her many camping trips, and visits to her homeland of Codroy Valley. Rita is survived by daughters, Velva (Fred) Bailey, New Waterford, Joyce (Patrick) Duffney, South Bar; sons, Stan (Carol) MacNeil, New Waterford, Wayne (Jackie) and Kevin (Mabel), both of South Bar, Derick (Laurie), Victoria Mines; sister, Marjorie 'Monie' (Allen) English, Codroy Valley; brothers, Ambrose (Hilda), Deer Lake, Gordon (Joan) and Michael (Eleanor), both of Codroy Valley; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie John in 1998, sisters, Stella Sutton, Rosena in infancy, a brother, Eddie in infancy, brother-in-law, Bill Sutton, and a great-grandson, Garrett. Visitation will take place Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. in the chapel with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating.
