78, New Waterford Sarah Martell, 78, of New Waterford, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Hogan) Groves. Sarah was a member of the Parish St. Leonard, St. Agnes Church. She worked for many years as a housekeeper, but her main priority in her life was raising her only son, Phonsie. Sarah loved going for drives and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandkids who referred to her as 'Little Nana'. Sara is survived by her son, Phonse (Agnes), New Waterford; sister, Theresa MacLeod, Dartmouth; and her two grandchildren, Craig, at home and Deanna (Colin), River Bourgeois. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Alphonse, sisters, Margaret Power and Mae Power, and one brother, Francis. There will be no visitation by her request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, N.S., 862-7500. A funeral mass to celebrate Sarah's life will be held Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard/St. Michael's Church with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Following mass a luncheon will be held in St. Agnes Parish Hall, all are invited. Burial will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at a later date.
